Sign in duty phone

Written by Guus de Zwart

Signing in for your shift via the widget (Android)

What is the shift widget?

Do you work with a duty phone that is not always used by an emergency responder? Then you can use the shift widget to sign in for your shift. This feature can be enabled per device by the administrator. As long as you are signed in, you can be alerted during an incident. If you are not signed in, you cannot be alerted and you will not receive any call-outs.

The shifts are set up in advance by your organisation's administrator. You do not need to enter any times yourself. You only sign in at the start of your shift.

Please note: with this feature, Safeguard's automatic presence registration is fully disregarded.

How it works

Signing in

  1. Go to the home screen of your phone where the Safeguard widget is located.

  2. The widget shows your current status. If you are signed out, you will see "You are Signed out" and the status "Not available" in the top right corner.

  3. Tap the red Sign in button.

  4. Select the correct shift.

Signing out

You can sign out in two ways:

  • Manually: tap the sign-out button in the widget, for example when you end your shift early or hand over the phone.

  • Automatically: at the end of the scheduled shift, you are signed out automatically. You do not need to do anything.

After signing out, you can no longer be alerted.

Always check your status at the start of your shift. You can only be alerted if you are signed in.

Adding the widget to your home screen

The widget is available on Android. This is how you add it:

  1. Press and hold an empty spot on your home screen.

  2. Tap Widgets.

  3. Look for Safeguard in the list.

  4. Press and hold the shift widget and drag it to the desired spot on your home screen.

The exact steps may vary slightly depending on the phone brand.
